I’m Going Back to College

I just love an adventure, and it’s obvious that in my life I also love school.

Today I was accepted into Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

I begin my studies in Spring 2011 for the Master of Arts in Christian Education with a concentration in Student Ministry.

This has been a ten year journey for me as I first felt the call into ministry in the spring of 2000 while at Angelo State University, but I was shocked at the cost of attending Hardin-Simmons University so continued to pursue my degree in Political Science.

I was again called to the ministry in the fall of 2007 and even discussed it then with my future wife Alicia, but again I had things “I” still wanted to do. I still wanted to work in government, I was interested in fundraising, I also later enjoyed working for myself.

Alicia and I would discuss my call into ministry at least twice more after we were married on April 25, 2009.

However, it was a lunch with Rob Watson, the Student Minister at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, Texas That finally grabbed me by the neck and showed me that I was intended for the ministry, and youth ministry at that.

In my favorite parable of the bible Three servants are put in charge of taking care of the masters property. These three servants each act differently. The first two double the property, and make the master pleased, but the third hides the property (his talent), and displeases the master. The Parable of the Talents (Mat 25:14-30) teaches us that no matter the talents, skills, or gifts God gives us we must use them to glorify him. If not he will take the talent from us and give it to someone who can use it.

My talents, skills, or gifts are administration and teaching. I have a few others, but those are the two big ones.

As a minister to youth I will be able to use both of these gifts, and there is no telling where God will take Alicia and I with these gifts.
